Union County NC is located just east of Charlotte NC and has been the fastest growing county in NC for several years and is one of the fastest growing areas in the nation. It's located in the south central section of North Carolina and borders with South Carolina. It's has easy access to Charlotte's Douglas International Airport, and area attractions such as Bank of America Stadium (home to the NFL's Carolina Panthers), Bobcat Area (home to the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats) and Lowes Motor Speedway. NASCAR was born in the Carolinas and the Charlotte area is home to many of NASCAR's racing teams, drivers, and personel. Corporate giants such as Bank of America, Lowes, Lance, Wachovia are located in the area and Charlotte is also known as a large banking center. A large portion of Union County's population commutes to Charlotte for employment, but Union County also offers great employment opportunites.
Union County was once known primarily as a rural area with much agriculture and farming. Much of this agriculture and farmland is still predominate in the eastern part of the county, while the western side has experienced the outpouring of growth from the Charlotte area. The western side of the county is more heavily populated with communities and homes but still the wide open spaces and lots of trees are still abundant. The schools are among the finest in the state, and taxes here are low. These two factors have contributed highly to the demand to live in Union County. Some of the largest homes and estates in North Carolina are located in the southwestern section of Union County in the Marvin and Weddington communities. Union County also has the larges equestrian community in the state and is home to the annual Queen's Cup Steeplechase event. Boaters and fishermen have many area lakes provide for recreational purposes, and for hunters there is a great amount of wildlife in the area as well. Golfers will never get tired of playing the same course as there are quite a few to choose from in the area and Union County alone has 9 public and private courses.
For weekend getaways, Union County is only 3 hrs. away from the Myrtle Beach SC Grand Strand and about 3 hrs. drive to the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west.
Union County's climate has fairly mild winters with perhaps one annual snowfall, and great temperatures throughout the rest of the year.
